Cherry pickin' the easy way

After deciding the cherry tree was too tall, too hard to pick, and in desperate need of a trimming, Bob climbed up and cut a few large branches off. Suddenly a problem picking the top of the tree became very easy - no ladders needed. Eight hours of picking, pitting, and canning created 12 lovely quarts of tart cherries in light sugar ready for winter pies.
Not being found of ladders, most years I only get a small part of the harvest. This year was exceptional. But I don't know how many years the tree would stand for this style of harvesting...and there was that one little fall from the tree for Bob resulting in a swollen knee and cut hand.
