2011 Seed and Indoor Lettuce

The indoor SWC with Red Leaf Lettuce. My seed was from a year or two ago and apparently is going bad. I only got these few plants out of my heavy seeding. I was going for baby greens. Guess I better let them get bigger. And this photo shows one of the problems of the indoor garden - it's developing some mold or mildew on the surface of the soil, maybe from being so cool in the studio.
But the mache has done well. I cut some and put it in our salad a few times now. I just cut the whole plant. It's fun and it tastes good. And I know it's as fresh as it can get.

Alfalfa seeds soaking for sprouts in the kitchen window where it's easy to remember to rinse them twice a day.

Eagerly awaiting a beautiful amaryllis flower from this one. It's starting off slow, but it is starting.

And finally, my 2011 seeds have arrived. New for this year: Savoy Deadon cabbage, El Jefe Jalapeno, Nero Di Toscana Kale, Red Kale, Sunset runner pole beans, Miner's Lettuce, Tah Tsai spinach mustard, Ancho Magnifico hot peppers, Bulgarian Carrot hot peppers, Giant Belgium tomato, Djena Lee Golden Girl tomato, Suncherry Extra Sweet tomato, Japanese Black Trifele tomato, Diva cucumber, Olpaka tomato, Tumbling Tom tomato, Tampiqueno Serrano hot pepper, Peregion dry beans, Brown Dutch dry bean, Adzuki dark red dry bean, Dragon Tongue bean, Viking red potato, Bintze potato, Multiplying onion.
That's it - that's enough. Especially with all my leftover seed from other years.

  1. Looking GOOD over there... except for the one spot. But isn't that the way it goes? ;-)

  2. Love these signs of spring in your photos! Because of where I live, I don't have a vegetable garden right now, but I love to be a virtual gardener ;-0

Do you consume your vegetable garden, or does your vegetable garden consume you?
